Volunteering

Experienced computer technicians, many of whom were involved with the Cincinnati Personal Computer Users Group (CPCUG) Hardware Special Interest Group (Hardware SIG) originally, train and oversee a steady stream of computer hobbyists and volunteers. In the time TAPIN has been in operation, TAPIN has benefited from volunteers that came from various places, organizations, businesses, schools and social groups.
Some of the core groups that make up TAPIN’s volunteer base are:
Cincinnati PC Users Group 1999 - present
University of Cincinnati (Students and Staff) 2000 - present
Xavier University (Swim Team) 2001 - 2003
Moeller High School (Computer Club) 2001 - 2004
Cincinnati State Technical College (Students) 2003 - present
National College (Students) 2007 – present
Many of these and other volunteers were students and adults
who were seeking new careers in, or involving computer technology. They were
able to use TAPIN as a valuable source and a means to get a hands-on experience
to compliment any formal classroom training and other previous knowledge.
While volunteering for TAPIN, people acquire many skills that are invaluable for their futures. Technology Assisting People In Need provides a direct hand-on instruction and experience in repairing and upgrading computers. TAPIN is more that willing to train its volunteers and people who work for other agencies in personal computer troubleshooting. In addition, TAPIN teaches classes to the volunteers about computer hardware and software, which occur in TAPIN’s computer training lab.
